Rink Basics

This post is about the lines on the rink and how they separate the different zones. Knowing this will help us understand where the different players "play".

There are 3 zones.

We will start with your goal/net. This 1/3 of the ice is your defensive zone. You defend against the other team as they try to score. This is the other teams    offensive zone.

Next is the middle 1/3 of ice. This is the neutral zone. This is where you try to set up plays and try to score. OR try to breakup the other teams play.

The final 1/3 of ice is your offensive zone. This is the other teams defensive zone. You try to score on their net/goal.

A final Note is... How do you tell Right from Left? When players say "I play Right Wing" or "I play Left Defense" where is that? Imagine you have your back to your net and are facing the other teams net. The right side of rink is Right Wing, Right Defense and the left side is Left Wing and Left Defense. The Center is ofcourse, the Center. We will get into specifics later.
