Welcome!

This blog was started a couple of years ago to help out women who want to learn to play hockey/pickup. It is divided into the following sections: (or, it will be soon, I am updating it)

o       Gear deals with what gear you need and how to put it on.

o       Rink Basics tells you about the ice surface. Very basic description of the zones.

o       Positions tells you where each "position" plays.

o       3 Rules tells you about offside and icing.

o       1st Game tells you what to expect the first time you go to a pick up game or shinny.

o       More Info has a collection of PDF files with more detailed information.

o       Play in NS is a list of Rec Leagues, teams and shinnys in Nova Scotia.

o       Reviews section will be added when I do a review. Comments will be welcomed here.

o       Geek will be added. Look here for explanations on stick types, skate sharpenings and so on. I want this section to be interactive with comments from players and coaches.

About me: My name is Jennifer and I started playing a few years ago. I remember being so full of questions! I began with a local shinny and fell in love with the game. As my skills progressed I became interested in playing in the rec league. I joined a team and continued to play both league and shinny. I was then offered a spot in a tournament what fun! It is now 3 years later and I am organizing 2 tournaments a year in addition to playing and helping to run our rec team. Yes hockey is addictive. But it in a good way. Don’t worry this is not an indication of how you will be affected. Most gals just show up, play and have fun.

We will start at the beginning, the very beginning. I will pass on every thing I learned and then we will go forward together. Also if you have any questions, please ask! If you know the answer, comment back. Please be nice to each other. I will post as much as I can and reserve the right to edit.

If you are new to hockey please go to Getting Started.
